Harmonies at Highclere

Highclere

Harmonies at Highclere is an evening of opera to be held annually in the grounds of Highclere Castle near Newbury, the ancestral home of our patrons the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon.  This year's event was held on the 12th August 2010 and it was a fantastic way to kick off this fledgling tradition.

This event will set the benchmark for similar evenings in the social calendar with planned performances from renowned professionals with repertoires from popular as well as less well known songbooks.

The first event was held on the undulating East Lawn with the beautiful and dramatic folly, Jackdaws Castle, as a backdrop.  People brought picnics, champagne but most importantly they brought each other  to enjoy this magical place and be entertained by two of the finest talents on today's classical music scene.

Madeleine and Ben, along with Jonathan Beatty on piano, performed well known pieces from their considerable repertoire.

Even 10 min of rain failed to dampen the spirits of the guests who happily erected gazebos and put up umbrellas for the duration proving that people will put up with any weather if the music is good!

We really do hope to see you all next year!
