Happy New Year 2012

January Blog

Happy New Year to you all

Small things sometimes seem to make such a difference. One of our Support staff received this message from the mother of one of the men who took part in the street theatre project

“I am writing to tell you as the parent of one of the participants of the Drama project run by your organisation how impressed I was by the results of this project.

This is the first time since his illness that I have seen my son motivated to participate in an activity. He was keen to get to the activity on time. He obviously enjoyed the workshops. He was confident in his performance and talked about it for many days afterwards.

He has since expressed a wish to find work within an "understanding team" which to me is also a reflection of the teamwork which took place within this activity. I would like to thank your organisation and the team running the event for making this opportunity possible and I would like to thank all the participants for a great performance”.

Great project and a great piece of work from all those who took part including the Big Lottery who funded the project. The short film will be shot in March, it’s a zombie movie at this time!

On a personal note I’ve entered the Balmoral 10k, exercise is good for you. If you fancy getting out running, why don’t you run for Launchpad at the Reading Half Marathon, April 1st, 18,500 runners and we have 4 charity places left!

Drop me a line and I’ll send you the application form.

Film of the month is an oldie “Blind Side” the story of a family who adopt a 15 year old homeless boy, who goes on to play in the NFL, a wonderful feel good movie.

Book of the month “Shieldwall” by Justin Hill, historical story of Edmund Ironside and Godwin his faithful thegn in early eleventh  century England. A wonderful story of a belief in a land, betrayal and loyalty.

Extravaganza of the month “the Nutcracker Suite” by Mathew Bourne wonderful adaption of Tchaikovsky’s ballet still on at Sadler’s Wells.
